Yesterday, on his Bokardo weblog, Joshua Porter discussed nine lessons for would-be bloggers. I found this post very informative and I browsed through some of his other posts and they are very worthwhile so I decided to subscribe to Bokardo.
I identified with his first point about overcoming the initial fear of putting yourself on public display. I have wanted to write a weblog for a while now and first signed up for this site on WordPress in October last year but it took me until February to begin. Even now when I try to write a post I am afraid of how it will turn out.
I am trying to overcome his third point (When in doubt, post) by forcing myself to try and write a post every day for a year. So far I have missed a few days but I have still managed to write 11 posts. I am envious of bloggers who seem to be able to write long posts nearly every day while I have found it difficult to write only a few hundred words at most each time. I hope that when it becomes established as a habit it will become easier to write longer posts.
Since I hope to use this weblog to help me in my career, I am going to need to start to post some of my thoughts on the subjects of grid computing and software development. This ties into Joshua’s sixth point–Have a Schtick.
The fact that I have already received a few comments makes me hopeful that others will find that I have something of value to say. The blogging ecosystem does seem to make it very easy for others to be able to find your post if it discusses a topic of interest to them.
